Veneto is one of Italy’s iconic regions for wine. Home to Prosecco, Soave and Valpolicella, among others, Venetian wine have traveled to nearly every corner of the globe. Open any reputable study guide and Veneto is featured prominently, right next to the seminal wines from Toscana and Piemonte. Yet, large cooperatives and greedy merchants have thinned quality over the years, damaging the reputation of this once sprawling kingdom. However, the Veneto is poised for a ferocious comeback, with wine professionals plucking incredible wines from a literal sea of mediocrity. Even this sommelier became jaded, resigned even, until a visit in 2022 resuscitated my interest. Now, I can’t get enough!
In this immersive tasting experience, sommelier Paul Robinson will shine a fresh light on this prestigious region. We will delve deep into the regions of Veneto, painting an expansive portrait of this area and its wines. I will cover details on history, geography, climate and appellations, while revealing stories of some of its great winemakers, past and present.
