I am an equal opportunist when it comes to personal enjoyment of Italian wine. For every aged-Barolo that makes me weak in the knees, there is an inexpensive, native grape that I simply adore. Recently, I attended a private tasting of a renowned producer and the first wine poured is this uncomplicated, chill-able red made from an obscure local grape. Over the course of the evening, even through the single-vineyards and riserva’s, I continued to crave that little local grape. It’s about simplicity and honoring the surprising vinous diversions we all deserve, that should never break the bank.
