Farmstead: Native Grapes!

  • Farmstead Wine/Cheese 6218 La Salle Avenue Oakland, CA, 94611 United States (map)

Join me for a new educational tasting series at Farmstead Wine & Cheese in Montclair!

Italy is home to more native grape cultivars than any other winemaking country in the world, including France. When the Phoenicians arrived before the Romans in the 7th Century BC, they declared the area 'Enotria' or 'land of the vine' for its incredible varietal diversity from town to town, sometimes from plot to plot! For the average consumer, it can be a dizzying experience to navigate in the local shop.

Join sommelier Paul Robinson for this immersive and educational tasting of 5 distinct Italian grapes in production today. Paul will discuss the characteristics of each grape, painting a portrait of where each comes from and why geography, climate and soils shape the experience in the glass. Ever tasted Monica from Sardegna, Greco from Campania or Ciliegiolo from Tuscany? So many fun and interesting wines to choose from. Join us! A light spread of antipasto will be provided.
