Ezio Poggio 2022 Timorasso ‘Caespes’ Piemonte
Ezio Poggio 2022 Timorasso ‘Caespes’ Piemonte
Timorasso is one of Piemonte’s most unique varietals, almost as if Chenin Blanc and Riesling had an offspring they sent to Italy. Ezio Poggio is among very few with vineyards above 600m and he makes a taunt and muscular version that shows white flowers, underripe orchard fruit and gushing acidity. Few Italian whites compare. The Tortona region of eastern Piemonte is the birthplace of Timorasso and Ezio resides in Libarna, among the highest elevations in this area. He works organically in the Val Borbera, where he employs native yeast fermentation and lots of contact with the fine sediment (lees), creating wines with a backbone, restrained expression and aromatic complexity.
