Weingut Niklas 2023 Schiava Alto-Adige

My favorite Schiava, a famous chill-able red from the Dolomites. Niklas has a lightweight body, showcasing strawberries, almonds and red currants with a touch of fine herbs. Just a lovely glass on a sunny day.  

Weingut Niklas is a father/son duo who farm vines in the southern end of Alto-Adige in the Kaltern area. Schiava is a popular, every-day wine most winemakers produce locally. Few coax such delicate and silky expression like Niklas’s version, a contrast to the darker ones from Santa Maddalena. They also produce a few fragrant whites and Alto-Adiges other red, Lagrein.
