Taste of Tuscany

Tuscany looms large in the world of Italian wine. Its storied history of craftsmanship, architecture and culture are among the main draws for tourists and aficionados alike. Beneath such deep history and prestige is a steady stream of quality wines coming from all across the region. What makes these wines special, apart from the quality found in the glass, are the stories of individual perseverance in the face of modernity and tradition alike. In this tasting, we dive into Chianti, Montalcino, San Gimignano, Grosseto and the IGT Toscana movement. Participants will gain an understanding of the area and its wines, as well as the trendsetters who transformed themselves for the benefit of all. Through 7 handpicked wines, we will learn all about climate, grapes and history of one of Italy’s most important winemaking regions. Unlock the secrets of Toscana with Sommelier Paul!

Sommelier Instructor

Paul Robinson has been in the hospitality business for almost 20 years. His career began in the private event business in NYC, working for a French fashion photography house and the acclaimed restauranteur Danny Meyer. After a meaningful trip to Italy, Paul pursued certification as a sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. He then moved into restaurants full-time, first by leading a wine/cheese program at Chiaroscuro in SF, then at 2 Michelin star Del Posto in NYC. After restaurants, a chance encounter would lead Paul to a new career: immersive educational tastings on regions and appellations all over the world. CA beckoned him his return and he has spent the last 3 years running Bottivino, a retail and events business devoted to Italian wine. Paul is a certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and a member of the ruling council of the Cavalieri del Tartufo e Dei Vini di Alba - SF Bay Area chapter.
