Altare 2020 Barolo Piemonte

Elegant Barolo from former upstart Elio Altare, one of the luminaries in Barolo who shook the industry. Altare is known for his rejection of the traditional method (long macerations and cask aged) for a modernist feel. Today, the winery is led by his daughter Silvia, and the Barolo have never been more balanced. Pure dark berried black and blue fruits swirl in the glass, lifted by a background of oak and spice, without ever obscuring Nebbiolo’s singular footprint. His 2020 is filling without being bold, showing a plusher side to these wines without sacrificing backbone. Less beastly than 2019.
