Ambra 2022 Carmignano ‘Santa Cristina in Pilli’ Toscana

Ambra 2022 Carmignano ‘Santa Cristina in Pilli’ Toscana

A bright yet structured Sangiovese from the hills west of Florence. Carmignano is an under-the-radar appellation with wines that are fuller than a Chianti yet not as layered as a Brunello. Ambra’s Sant Cristina have this persistent red cherry attack contrasted with tobacco, herbal leaf and nicely integrated tannin. Fattoria Ambra is an old estate run by the Rigoli family since the mid 1800, when Carmignano was at the peak of its popularity. They organically farm 20 hectar of vineyards across 5 distinct hillsides of mostly Sangiovese with native grapes and a little Cabernet.
