Refined Barbaresco from young vines in the village of Treiso. Ca del Baio’s ‘Autinbej’ “beautiful vineyard” has a youthful expression in the glass, with fine-grained tannins, crunchy fruit and a crisp finish that seems to hang on and on. The Grasso family has been growing grapes in Barbaresco since the 1920’s. They produce classical Barbaresco with a restrained quality that ages gracefully. From their charming compound in Vallegranda, they work tiny plots in some of the areas finest vineyards, most notably Asili. They were my first winery visit to Barbaresco and left a lasting impression.
