Cantina della Volta 2017 Brut Metodo Classico ‘Christian Bellei’ Emilia Romagna

Cantina della Volta 2017 Brut Metodo Classico ‘Christian Bellei’ Emilia Romagna

A very dry and unique sparkler from the Bomporto region of Emilian Romagna, like captured sunlight in the glass. Few make a Lambrusco Bianco (off the skins) and no-one vinifies it like a bottle of Champagne. The result is a smooth and softly expressed bottle of Lambrusco without the pink hue but packed with layered stone, citrus and brioche for miles!

Cantina della Volta has been in the Lambrusco business since the early 1920’s and from the start the house’s style has hewn closely to that of Champagne. Young Christian Bellei, the 4th generation, had visited Champagne in the 90’s and became a fervent follower of the traditional method of making wine, referred to as “secondary fermentation in the bottle”. In Lambrusco, the prevailing method was Charmat or ‘tank fermentation’ and it created wines with brighter fruit and wider bubbles. The traditional method allows for a more nuanced experience with flavor and aroma.  Christian and his father Giuseppe visited several more times, soaking in all the wines and production ideas they could, culminating in 2010’s first vintage of Cantina della Volta.
