Ciavolich 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Divus’ Abruzzo

From the oldest vines on the estate in Loreto Aprunito in Abruzzo, Ciavolich Montepulciano Divus shows the deeper, more textured side to Montepulciano. Often made cheaply, I always turn to Chiara Ciavolich for her honest approach to winemaking and the complexity of her mono-varietal wines. Divus is aged in different formats of barrel, giving this wine a layered mouthfeel to match Montepulciano’s robust dark fruit. While not as big as others in its class, the Divus shows what a little restraint in the vineyard will give you. Chiara is one of few female winemakers in Abruzzo who lead the pack!
