Ciavolich 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Divus’ Abruzzo

From the oldest vines on the estate in Loreto Aprunito, Ciavolich Montepulciano Divus shows the deeper, more textured side to Montepulciano. Often made cheaply, I always turn to Chiara Ciavolich for her honest approach to winemaking and the complexity of her mono-varietal wines. Divus is aged in different formats of barrel, giving this wine a layered mouthfeel to match Montepulciano’s robust dark fruit. While not as big as others in its class, the Divus shows what a little restraint in the vineyard will give you.
