Ciavolich 2025 IGT Pescaresi Cococciola Abruzzo
Ciavolich 2025 IGT Pescaresi Cococciola Abruzzo
Cococciola is a fun and obscure varietal with a soft expression of yellow flowers, citrus and a touch of earth, reminiscent of a leaner Pecorino. This is a great get-together wine for aperitivo or even a light lunch. Local legend Chiara Ciavolich brough this grape back from obscurity in 1985. Her family has a storied history in Abruzzo dating back to 1560, with winemaking beginning in the mid 1800’s. During this time, they built a famous subterranean wine cellar in the province of Chieti, which stands today as an example of Abruzzo’s winemaking past. Chiara and Gianluca are the current generation of winemakers, and they follow sustainable winemaking practices in the vineyard and cellar. Today, they own 2 estates covering 50 hectar across Pescara, focusing on Montepulciano, Trebbiano and this fun Cococciola grape.
