Cirelli 2022 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Anfora’

Cirelli 2022 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo ‘Anfora’

There is uncommon purity in this Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, with a rich drop of blue and black fruit followed by the loveliest acidity. No edges exist in this polished expression, amplified from the use of clay amphorae during the aging process. A contrast to Ciavolich’s Divus bottling. Francesco Cirelli began his winery in 2003 to fulfill, in his words, “an existential need to become involved with agriculture.” His winery is basically a farm that grows grapes, alongside the production of artisanal olive oil, vegetables, fruit and meats. With a 23 hectar property south of the village of Atri, his goal is biodiversity and sustainability to promote the growth of healthy grapes. He ferments his wines naturally and works closely with the famous Calanchi clay amphorae of Atri in all stages of winemaking.
