Like a fistful of ripe cherries and Mediterranean spice, this Ciliegiolo is one punchy red hailing from the hills outside Pisa. Woah! Vibrant, smooth, yet with a tannic bite, I love an easy-drinking red with this much personality. Wild mushrooms, roasted chicken, grilled fennel sausages, the pairing options go on and on. Fibbiano is a small family-run winery in the Terricciola area of Pisa in northwestern Tuscany. Brothers Matteo and Nicola Cantoni organically farm vineyards with complex soil deposits from back when the ocean occupied much of western Toscana. They ferment spontaneously and let native grapes speak for themselves.
