Ca del Baio 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo
Fresh, fragrant and forward Nebbiolo from the village of Barbaresco. This is exactly as Langhe Nebbiolo should be, effusive with easy tannins and a slowly developing bouquet. Yum! The Grasso family has been growing grapes in Barbaresco since the 1920’s. They produce classical wines with a restrained quality that ages gracefully. From their charming compound in Vallegranda in Treiso, they work tiny plots in some of the areas finest vineyards, most notably Asili. They were my first winery visit to Barbaresco and left a lasting impression.
Oddero 2020 Barolo Classico Piemonte
There is a lot of magic found in “village-level” Barolo these days and Oddero’s 2020 is a standout. Assembled from fruit in both La Morra and Castiglione Falletto, there is a completeness to this wine I love. On the nose, it has a leaner fruit profile with more minerals and classic dried red flowers. The palate is a deeper experience, showing a plushness of dark red fruit lifted by some persistent acidity. Produced from one of Barolo benchmark families.
