Vumbaca 2023 Ciro Rosso Superiore Calabria

This little Mediterranean gem is from winemaker Christian Vumbaca. He works organically in the Ciro region of Calabria and produces smooth and expressive wines from native grapes like this Gaglioppo, the area’s oldest varietal. Gaglioppo is an earthy and aromatic grape, like Etna’s Nerello Mascalese, and in Christian’s hands it jumps out of the glass with coastal expression. Lightly colored but big on cherries, savory spice and acidity. A compelling choice as the weather turns warm.
